sbobet online 24 Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope is hoping his recent experience of being involved with the England squad will eventually lead to him playing for his country. England manager Gareth Southgate named Pope in his squad for the recent friendlies against Netherlands and Italy and although he did not get on the pitch, Pope was pleased to be involved.

"It's a whole new level and a different way of doing things. To experience it, hopefully it's a little taster for the future," he told Soccer Saturday. "It's great to have positive words said about you. I have got great fans at Burnley that have been behind me and the whole team the whole season.

"It's nice to have them on your side and in football it's not always that way. I have had clubs before where it's not always as positive, so when the positive times do come along, you've got to take it." Pope has stepped in to replace injured Clarets team-mate Tom Heaton in both the Burnley starting line-up and the England squad, with the 26-year-old hoping to be on his way to the World Cup in Russia this summer. sbobet online 24

He is also relishing the opportunity to be part of an unfancied Burnley side that is now pushing for a Europa League place next season. A 2-1 win at home to Leicester on Saturday was followed by a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on Thursday night but Pope says there is still a positive mood in the local area when it comes to their football team. "There is a real buzz around the town at the moment and come matchday, it's bouncing," he added. "After Saturday, the Europa League is something a lot of people think is possible. Obviously we don't need Southampton to win the FA Cup, it's not signed and sealed just yet.

"It has got to be our next goal now, to finish seventh or even higher." Pope also conceded that, compared to a side that is used to finishing top-four in the Premier League and qualifying for the Champions League, making it to the Europa League next campaign would be a real achievement for Burnley. "If you are used to playing in the Champions League season-in, season-out, the Europa League won't seem as glamorous," said Pope. "For our dressing room, playing in Europe for the first time will mean more." sbobet online 24

Mexico U21s 0-0 England U21s: Aidy Boothroyd's side held to cagey draw

sbobet asia England U21s were held to a goalless draw by Mexico U21s in their second game of the Toulon Tournament, but remain on course for the knockout rounds. Both sides won their opening fixtures in Group A but cancelled each other out in this contest. Mexico had the best chance of the game as Freddie Woodman put Roberto Alvarado's strike over the crossbar in the first half, but neither side seriously threatened to break the deadlock.

It sees Mexico remain top of Group A heading into the final round of group games, with England in second on goal difference. Aidy Boothroyd's side will play Qatar on Friday after Mexico have faced China. England went close in the eighth minute but a powerful strike from Eddie Nketiah went straight into the arms of Mexico goalkeeper Jose Hernandez.

Mexico had two good efforts not long after. Cesar Montes could only loop a header over the crossbar from a corner before Diego Lainez showed off some superb skill to beat Callum Connolly and whip a cross through the box, but Uriel Antuna sent his volley wide. Mexico could have been reduced to ten men in the 14th minute as Jorge Sanchez fouled Nketiah for a second time, being booked for a similar foul ten minutes earlier, but he escaped further punishment.

The best chance of the first half fell to Mexico in the 21st minute, with Alvarado's strike tipped over the crossbar by Woodman after good work by Alan Cervantes and Antuna. England began the second half well and could have opened the scoring within minutes, but Kieran Dowell's cross from the right could only be directed into the hands of Hernandez by the head of Lukas Nmecha. sbobet asia

Tammy Abraham - who scored the winner against China on Saturday - was introduced in the 66th minute and almost scored with his first touch. Connolly headed the ball into the box from a cleared corner, with Nmecha scooping the delivery towards the back post for Abraham, but it just ran past the striker and drifted wide.

Lainez then drove towards goal a minute later, but saw a thunderous effort whistle over the crossbar. Not long after, the 17-year-old went down after a collision with Jay Dasilva in the box but the officials waved away the penalty appeals. The remainder of the game went by without too much fuss although England saw the better of the possession, with the sides eventually sharing the points. sbobet asia
